A time trial 2 laps around wharrnclife XC track:
The route:
Standard climb up mainly on fire roads with a short singletrack section.
possibility of using a tame downhill track.
Other than that just the normal route.
Timing : I don't think a mass start is really appropriate as its just going to end up been a sprint to the single track, i think we should set people off with 1-2 minute intervals and adjust the timing appropriately. Its not a downhill race so a few seconds either way isnt going to make a difference. Stop watches will be fine to time people.
Who Anyone who wants to race in the champs . Open to everyone and anyone within the club. The fastest people will race.Including roadies.Even if you have no intentions of racing come along ital be a fun day. (i did the downhill last year, people will remember)
People who i expect to be racing: Kyle,Eoin , Dan,Dan(pink stiffe),Paul,Andy.s,Andy.d, possible Dave and maybe Mike.
When
Provisionally 17th of February thats after exams but if people have problems with it let me know as soon as possible.

Yeah that sounds great fun, if I can borrow a bike off someone to do the course on. 17th feb is fine for me, but free most weekends in feb if needs to be changed. Did 20miles off road at home the other day, but that was on a bmx...

Right iv just been up to Wharncliffe to have a look around:
From what we could tell the climb will now be just the straight fire road climb. As the single track section is way too muddy.
The top section was still muddy but easily ridable.
After that theres more muddy single track that is worse but its not too bad.
And then the fast track back down which should be interesting as its a pretty trick track should be ok for most people its not that much harder then the dunkel one last year.
SO as i haven't heard anyone complaining about the date it going ahead on the 17th if you want to race B.U.S.A be there or your gonna miss out.
Meet at the usual 11am at the arts tower.

Howdy peeps! was just reading the board and see you want to get some girls in for the BUSA ride, well I would be interested to give it ago, not done anything like it before and only have a BMX....but was thinking of getting a mountain bike anyhow so if I can sort out a bike by the 17th then I would be keen to give it a bash?? oh and I'm not currently a member!

Hi, Kay
I will have a bike you can ride, not a xc race machine but its better suited than a bmx.

I'll happily give dh a bash too, to be honest I don't really know much of the difference b/n dh and XC but can try both and see which I prefer/better suited to. When do you guys go out for a ride?

This could be a hugely amusing argument but both disciplines have there ups and down you just have to walk up if your a downhiller.
I personally think your far better off starting with xc and when you build up a good skills base move over to downhill.
I started riding last year when i came to Sheffield , didn't know anything about cycling really but xc is alot less specific as far a the bikes go so it more open to beginners.
Club XC rides are starting again this sunday at 11am and the wednesday ones will start after that at 2pm. We meet at the front of the arts tower.
