The Ghetto Races are a series of qualifying events to prepare us for the student champs. Both Downhill and CrossCountry are putting on their own events and hopefully we will get some Hallam Scum riders involved.
BUCS MTB is happening early next year, at the start of march. Venue still to be announced. The atmosphere is always amazing! Over one hundred students camping and racing and cheering all weekend.
The Champs race only has 4 places from each uni and you will be rubbing shoulders with those racing at the XC Nationals the following week, but the sports race is great fun for everyone, a perfect introduction to XC racing.
Competition is fierce this year, since we have so many good fit people and keen roadies looking to get in on the action.
To see who gets the opportunity to represent The University Of Sheffield at the highest level, we are organising a series of Ghetto Races.
Each race will be Handicapped. Meaning theoretically we will all finish at the same time, either by varying the laps or start times.
Three events are planned for before christmas with a final after exams.
The first of these is being run on Sunday 21st of November.
Meeting at the Arts Tower 11:00 we will: spin out to the top of Fox Hagg (Rivelin); ride the course, so everyone knows the route; then race around.
To be in with a chance at the champs race you must have raced at least two of the four qualifying events. But the more you race, the more experience you get, and they are great fun even if you aren't interested in racing or you don't feel you're particularly fast.
If you have questions, suggestions, or are interested but cannot make the events; then post up on the forum or the facebook event.
