Just after some advice on what tyres to get for XC race, and what size. I think Eoin recomended Kenda nevegal, and blue groove combo. What size do you think 2.1 or 2.35?
Anyone else got any ideas?

I've got two people at our bike shop who'll agree with the Nevagal and Blue Groove combo. I liked the P'racer Fire XC Pros that I had, felt fast on hard stuff even though they were 2nd hand and trashed. I would assume (more experienced people please correct me if I'm wrong) that 2.1 would be better than 2.35 just for less rolling resistance. You could even go for 2.1/2.25 front and a 1.9 rear. Trek were doing that on some of their Fuel EXs and XC hardtails, the thinking being that the front would cut a wider groove through any mud leaving space for the rear tyre! You also get the decreased rolling resistance of a 1.9 but with the grip of a 2.1/2.25 up front. I'm doing this from memory, I haven't actually ridden this setup to test its usefulness.

no i said nevegal (front) and small block 8 (rear)
depends on the course mind you. The 2.1 kendas come up quite large, they should be plenty big enough.
Its been shown a few times that fatter tyres generally have lower rolling resistance, as does running slightly lower pressure ('normal pressures,' about 30-35psi, rather than old school 50psi for racing), because the tyre deforms round objects rather than colliding with them.
Personally I wouldn't use a tyre below 2.1 unless its stupidly muddy in which case I'll be at home with my feet up. also watch the tyre weights: as much as I hate to admit it, lighter is definitely faster. so 2.1/2.2 is probably about right in terms of trade off.
