So, I got my fork serviced and they called me up to inform me that it contained a lot of the peak district inside and that the stantions, crown, seal etc needed replacing. They recommended buying a new fork....
Has anyone got any recommendations for me on a good fork to buy, 100mm travel, lightish, no more than 400 GBP (but I may buy it accross the pond and save some pennies)?

if you can get some cheap, fox floats are the d's bs. my xc bike came with them and they seem pretty soolid. mind you, fox are pretty expensive and could probably get summat of equal performance/quality from rockshox (e.g. rebas/revelations) for cheaper. it'd be worth giving them a bit of love every now and again tho, to avoid the same thing happening as your old forks..

I don't think all the love in the world would beat the peak district!
My worn out forks are Floats, which I do like, but as you said are rather expensive. I'll check out rockshox though. Does anyone know anything about Magura Durins?

I'd look at Marzocchi too. The seals are very good on them and large open baths are good for longevity if not light weight.
Fox use a different seal type (I think its a half seal) that means their forks feel dead smooth out the box. Soooo many foxs end up with destroyed stanctions due to the seals not being that good its unreal. Thats one of the reasons why I sold mine after having them for 5 months.
My brother has had a set of Rebas teams for the past 3 or so years and they work pretty good (only been serviced once I think!). The poplock thingy is really good for getting to places on the road too.
I know loads of people who swear by revelations though and if you run them at the same travel as you would a Reba they're stiffer due to the increased overlap. If you think you might like the extra travel don't um and ar just get the revelations, you can always run them shorter. They also do a coil spring one in the revs which is even more 'peaks-proof'.
